Germany consists of 16 Federal States (Bundesland), and the last 3 questions you will see in the citizenship test are specific to the state where you reside.
How Does the Pool Work?
- 300 Questions: Common for everyone (General Pool).
- 160 Questions: There are 10 specific questions for each state.

What Do State Questions Ask?
They usually focus on these 3 topics:
- State Coat of Arms: "Which of the following coats of arms belongs to NRW?"
- State Capital: "What is the capital of Hesse?" (Attention: Not Frankfurt, but Wiesbaden!)
- State Prime Minister: "Who is the Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg?"
Important Warning
If you move (your Meldebescheinigung address changes), your exam questions also change! You must study the questions of the state where you are registered for the exam. Don't forget to select your state in the PassPilot settings.
