Many applicants get confused when they hear these two terms. Are the questions identical? Which one is harder? Which one is valid for citizenship?
Short Answer: The Questions are 100% Identical!
Yes, you heard that right. Both exams use 33 questions randomly selected from the same pool of 310 questions. So when you study with PassPilot, you are preparing for both.
So What is the Difference?
The difference is not in the content, but in the official status and the organizing body:
1. Einbürgerungstest (Citizenship Test)
- Purpose: Strictly for applying for German citizenship.
- Participation: Anyone can take it for 25 Euros, no course required.
- Result: It simply says "Passed" or "Failed" (17 correct answers are enough).
2. Test "Leben in Deutschland" (LiD)
- Purpose: It is the final exam of the Integration Course.
- Participation: Usually taken by those attending the integration course.
- Result: Based on your score, it can also serve as proof of integration knowledge.
Good News: German authorities accept BOTH DOCUMENTS for citizenship
applications. So if you have a "Leben in Deutschland" certificate, you do NOT need to take the
"Einbürgerungstest" separately.
